Mahadevi Verma was born on 27 April 1907 and died on 11th September 1987. She was very famous Hindi Poet and her most poem in chhayavaad. She was the principal and then the vice chancellor of Prayag Mahila Vidyapeeth. She was born in Farrukhabad into Hindu family. Her fathers name in Govind Prasad Verma.

Her marriage was arranged and conducted when she was 9 years old in 1916. She remained at her parental home for education. She completed her schooling at Crossthwaite Girls School, Allahabad. After that, she completed her higher education from Allahabad University and passed her BA examination in 1929. After graduation, she completed her master’s degree M.A. in Sanskrit in 1933.

Mahadevi Verma started to write poems secretly. Her roommate and seniors Subhadra Kumari Chauhan exposed Har talent. In a childhood biography book ‘Mere Bachpan Ke Din” Mahadevi Verma was written that at the time of when she was a girl child she considered as a burden upon the family.

Career

In 1930 Mahadevi Verma began teaching at a school around Allahabad. She was appointed as the first headmistress of Allahabad Mahila Vidyapeeth in 1933. During her time at Allahabad Mahila Vidyapeeth, she organized several conferences of poets or Kavi Sammelan. Mahadevi is considered to be one of the four major poets of the chhayavaadi school of the Hindi literature.
